Happy New Year!  For me, 2012 has definitely been the best year yet, and I have a feeling that 2013 will be even better.  Now that I’m on winter vacation, I’ve been watching a lot of Netflix and… that’s about it.  Being away from school for a bit is quite nice.  My Extreme Skinny Jeans have been getting a lot of wear too.  The black rinse goes with anything and everything. -alyson

Denim Crazy

The new Vans Girls Fall 2012 line is out, and saying that I’m obsessed is a complete understatement.  This fall, I know it’s all about the denim for me.  Who says denim on denim can’t be cute? (Especially with the Back-Up Top’s cut-out shoulders!)

Outfit pieces: Vans Girls Back-Up Woven Top, Vintage self-studded denim shorts, Vans Girls Floral Authentic Lo Pros, & Vans Girls Round and Round Sunglasses -alyson

Staring at my old white Authentic Lo Pros, I wondered what I could do to make them one-of-a-kind.  They were my first ever pair of Vans (5 years old!) and they’ve been through quite a bit.  I came up with the idea of dip-dyeing them:  I’ve never seen it on shoes, although it is a major trend for clothes.  This is by far my favorite DIY yet.

Here’s what you’ll need: A pack of fabric dye in your favorite color, your trusty white Vans, rubber or latex gloves, a bucket, boiled water, and a large spoon.

1. Boil enough water to fill the bucket so half of your shoes can soak in it.  Take your project outside and read the dye directions (Some dyes say putting salt in the water will better the results).

2. Put on your gloves, pour the dye into the water and stir until dissolved.

3. Start dip-dyeing!  Place your Vans in the dye (take the laces out and lift up the tongues!), and let it soak. You can try dyeing the heel or the toe, whichever you prefer!  If you don’t want a defined line as to where the dye starts, move the shoe up and down a little so it’s not at the same position the entire time.  Keep it in the dye for about 15 minutes each shoe.

4.  Take your shoes out, and lay out to dry for a few minutes.  Then rinse your Vans with a hose or in the sink until the water runs clear.

5.  Let them dry overnight, lace up, and you got your dip-dyed Vans!-alyson

My favorite DIY that I’ve done yet!

I’ve discovered that the Vans Zapato Lo Pros are the PERFECT shoe for summer, so I decided to create three outfits to pair with the easy slip-on sneaker. No matter what the occasion is, you can bet on the Zapato Lo Pros to be the right choice to wear!

1. Wear this look for a picnic or bonfire. Being effortlessly chic starts with an oversized fleece, like the Washed Up Pullover, and the comfy Border Control Shorts. Pair fun socks with the Zapato Lo Pros, and top it off with cute accessories. I chose a funky collar (that I DIY’ed!) and my Round and Round sunnies.

2. This outfit is perfect to go shopping with the girls. Look simple and classy with a loose sheer top, nice slim skinny jeans, like the Vans Extreme Skinny Denim, and accessorize with a floppy hat. The Stud at the Beach Hat is such a cute statement piece.

3. Get a girly and romantic vibe for dinner or a date. Wear a long flowy skirt with the Beached Knit Top, and keep your essentials in a shoulder purse, like the Saddled Cross-Body Bag. Top it off with some flowers in your hair (I DIY’ed my headband here!-alyson

While catching up on the current trends by scrolling through Lookbook.nu, I noticed a repeated piece in many recent outfits: the Yellow Neon Authentics are loved by the girls of Lookbook.  Now we know they are definitely a must-have for this summer!  (Looks by Sietske L., Karina P., Maja R., and Clémentine C.) -alyson

Last Thursday in the windy city, I grabbed my Deserted Snake Backpack and went to the Art Institute of Chicago, which was having a special exhibition on pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.  A Retrospective had over 170 of Lichtenstein’s pieces, ranging from his signature style to never-before-seen works.  My favorites included his paintings that resemble women in romance comic strips.  His bright colors totally reminded me of the Vans Pop Authentics (which are equal parts awesome and colorful). -alyson

Greetings from Chicago! Last Sunday, I flew into O’Hare airport to have two weeks of vacation.  I roamed the city in one of my favorite Vans Girls graphic tees and matched it with a flowy High-Low skirt, a perfect summer piece.  I also wore my super light and comfy Leather Sk8-Hi D-Los, which are my new addiction. Chinatown and the downtown Loop area were some of the places I visited and, admittedly, I got too touristy for my own good. The weather is awesome in the Midwest and this place is a total blast. -alyson
